yeterday's news

the obituary is a few weeks too late
but that time has afforded me a luxury
i have read what others have written
and the grief has had time to ferment and mature
and it has settled itself in a fashion
what i have arrived at may sound no different
indeed, it may not be different at all
but my eyes are tearing as i write
so i know i'm still there

We recently had the same thing happen. It is sad to lose someone and even sadder to not get to pay your respects. But I believe souls know when you honor them.

My dad died 74 days ago. Butts and Ashes started with him. I thought it would end with him also.

I didn't go to his funeral. I refused to write his obituary even though I am the "writer" in the family. Now my sister won't speak to me. I don't think I care anymore. I just needed to hide. Maybe I still do.

See what you opened up with your words.

It will get better so chin up and go piss somebody off. You'll feel better. Want my sister's number?

i'm so sorry for your loss and not being able to be there. however, i've found that sometimes even being there doesn't give you the closure.
